My son

When my son Dylan first came to me at 14 years old he was struggling to know what was right and what was wrong. Within the first 30 days of school he was kicked out for fighting. By the end of the school year he was kicked out for the year. These are things I don't speak about a lot but I wanted to today.

Dylan was used to going to bed and hearing Gun Shots , walking to school and getting jumped. It was a normal day in his life to see crimes take effect. He told us how he seen drug deals daily and how he feared for his life.

Dylan has been doing so good this year at school. I am not sure if it was because we grounded him all summer * lol* or if it is because he is learning a new way of life. I think it is some of both. He has grown up so much in the last year and he is learning to take responablities for his own actions. He is learning words are just that words... If someone makes fun of you there is no need to get into a fight with them. He is growing up right before our eyes. I am so very proud of him!

Everyday is not roses and we still have some days where I want to crawl into my bed and just stay there but everyday is getting better and he is learning a new way at life.

A lot of people said Oh he should be happy....... He has a new life..... A better life...... He is 15! He knows better! But when you live the life he lived day in and day out your whole life it is not as easy to learn a new way of living. He had to learn you will have food every single day at every single meal and then snacks! He had to learn it is OK to make mistakes and you don't have to run away. He had to learn I LOVE YOU is not just words but it is a very real emoction! He had to learn it is not only ok to FEEL love but to give and receive love. He has learned that we may be disappointed in him at times but that we still and always will love him!

Night and day that is what it is. My son is growing up but above all my son is living...... He is living a real life where he is loved and where it is Ok to make mistakes and learn from your mistakes!

I love you Dylan and you make me very proud of you. YOU are MY hero.
